Here are the winners of the Squamish Youth Excellence Awards

The Squamish Youth Council took over the Brackendale Art Gallery: Café & Culture Centre on Sunday, May 4, for Youth Excellence Night.

It was a youth-led night full of good vibes all around.

The council is made up of youth aged 12 to 18  who meet monthly with members of the Squamish council.

Members serve a one year term and one of their main goals is "to amplify the voice of Squamish youth in matters and projects that directly impact them."

At the May 4 event, there was a pop-up youth market, youth excellence awards (including awards for adults in the community who are making an impact with youth), and the awarding of $5,000 in micro-grants.

Special Spirit of Excellence Awards went to:

  • Young Entrepreneur of the Year – Parker Robertson

  • Volunteer of the Year – Daisy Hawkins

  • Youth Employer of the Year – Sunflower Bakery Café

  • Coach of the Year – Mark Smith

  • Rise—Overcoming Adversity – Lukas Lawrence

  • Mentor of the Year – Sara Constantin, Squamish Dance Centre

  • Culture Role Model – Kylie August, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation)
