Victories for the sirens

The Sea to Sky Sirens won the泭 Squamish Inquisition roller derby tournament this past weekend.

Im pleased to report that we won both of our games with a large point differential, said Amber Turnau via email.

The Sirens won 262-142 against the Doomsday Bunnies.

They did it again in the second game, winning 236-105 against the Terminal City Rollergirls Team Dragon.

Crafting better climbers

The Arcteryx Climbing Academy brought more than 200 people from around the world to work on their skills over the weekend.

As part of the event, the Canada West Mountain School conducted 40 clinics.

Many well-regarded professional climbers also made the trip to Squamish to teach climbers who were eager to work on their craft.

Participants included climbers from all over North America, Japan, Chile, Europe and New Zealand.

A huge success and a great event to put Squamish in the spotlight as the place to spend time for mountain adventures, said Brian Jones, who runs the school, in an email.
